Parking:
It's always wise, especially when you have a character like Santa coming to your event, to provide close parking. This is not an issue of convenience for the performer (although greatly appreciated). Santa comes into each party from his sleigh (car) right as the party starts. In order to get there on time, he should be parked as close as possible to the event location. Here's why: Santa is known world-wide. He is an iconic character that is loved by all. He WILL be stopped on the way to the door for greetings and pictures. Your performer will try to allow time for a couple of greetings, but a parking space close to the performance space is sure to prevent a delay. This is true for other characters, as well. Elves, Rudolph, etc. will be attractive and highly visible in costume and it is natural for people to approach them. For your sake, you can help move their entrance along with a parking spot that allows them to get in quickly and efficiently.
Expectations:
Tell the person you are booking or their agent what you are expecting. Do you want Santa to take pictures with everyone? Do you prefer that he mingles? If you give the performer an idea of what you want for your guests ahead of the party, they can watch the time and make sure that your expectations are met.
Space:
When you have a performer coming to do a show, or if you have a Santa coming to sit for pictures, make sure the space is ready for your entertainer. This will help the entertainer do what they do best: ehtertain!
